Honeymoon in Iceland

View of Reykjavik from the bell tower.
Nearly one year ago, we were prepping for our fabulous wedding and of course, our honeymoon! We were lucky enough to spend a week in and around Reykjavik, Iceland.

We registered for our honeymoon, which means our friends and family sent us on this grand adventure! And for that, we are very grateful. As a small thank-you, we sent postcards (or gifted a wee bottle of Reyka vodka) to those who contributed. I love it when couples have a honeymoon registry. The gift of travel is the best gift you can give a new couple, I think. In the past, we have given to Honeyfunds for friends traveling to the Caribbean, Cape Cod, Maui and Mexico. It's great fun to be a tiny part of your dear friends' dream vacations, don't you think?

Anyway, here's just a small peek at our trip!

After a seven-hour direct flight from Denver, we arrived in rainy and chilly Reykjavik! The short, overcast days were ideal for sleeping in and recovering from the wedding week celebrations. During the week, we got to relax in our little room overlooking the marina; soak in the natural hot lagoons; explore the scenic countryside; and enjoy warm beverages near cozy fireplaces. It was perfect for us and we would absolutely recommend it to anyone on an adventure! The Icelandic people were so, so friendly, and the scenery is just gorgeous.

Sleep: We booked an air + hotel package through Icelandair (they own several hotels in the country). We slept at the cozy/modern Icelandair Marina Hotel. With the marina on one side and the city on the other, it's in a perfect location. The traditional breakfast every morning was a lovely treat, and the bar in the lobby was surprisingly full of interesting, fun locals.

Nosh: Icelandic Fish & Chips was our first and favorite meal in Reykjavik. The fish was fresh and the menu included several organic, seasonal options. We had lunch in the city center at Noodle Station which was also memorable. Fishmarket is another fun place for dinner.

Enjoy:  Hallgrimskirkja Bell Tower is a beautiful concrete church in the middle of the city. Take the elevator to the top for a stunning view. The Blue Lagoon is well worth the visit; the waters are so calming and relaxing to soak in. We were spoiled and got to spend a few hours in the private lounge area, complete with fireplace, champagne and mud masks! Also, you must take a bus or private car to the Golden Circle of Thingvellier, Gulfoss and the Geysir park for a scenic adventure in the countryside. The views are breathtaking!

Gosh, typing this all out has given me such an urge to go back! We just really loved it there. If you're considering a trip please let me know if you need any advice or recommendations! Obviously I love to talk about our short amount of time there.
